Manga Shi 2000 presents an interesting “alternate future” for Shi, using the stylings of Japanese science-fiction manga. It begins at the year 2000 when the Middle East erupted in nuclear war. In one afternoon, much of the world was wiped from the map in a nuclear fire storm. The U.S., however, was left unscathed, protected by secretly deployed satellites put in place by the corporation COMSAFE: Computer Systems for American Future Evolution.

Unfortunately, the U.S. was not invulnerable to the economic collapse brought on by the nuclear destruction. It triggered a second American Revolution, after which COMSAFE’s master computer decided that humanity itself was the potential enemy, and that violent humans must be hunted down before they cause more destruction. Of course, this meant that proud warriors such as Shi became targets for the mechanized dreadnoughts of COMSAFE.
