Starman’s revival in the ’90s won the character concept a whole new generation of fans, but it was back in the ’40s that the character, “a figure of night and mystery,” got his start. Armed with his powerful gravity rod, which could both defy gravity and launch bolts of energy, the character utilized the mysterious powers of the stars to battle crime, both on his own and as a member of the Justice Society of America. These early adventures were first published in Adventure Comics, and even the titles—”The Menace of the Lethal Light,”and “The Mystery of the Undersea Terror”-— reveal that Starman’s alter-ego, wimpy playboy Theodore Knight, is all just an act.

Written by Gardner Fox and drawn by Jack Burnley, these early, formative issues of the character are beautifully reprinted in full-color in hardbound form. Original covers, text pages, and a foreword by Burnley complete the attractive package.
