Ranma 1/2 Part 8
(Viz, 1999)
™ and © Viz Communications, Inc.
Life is tough for teenaged Ranma. Besides being forced to deal with the raging emotions of him and all his friends, there’s the fact that an accident has resulted in a splash of cold water temporarily transforming him into a girl! In any case, neither male nor female sex can prepare him for dealing with such unique individuals as the young French nobleman Picolet, whose martial arts skills incline toward the art (war?) of eating. Will Ranma’s own skills be up to the task? Can he, or she, prevail? The story is just one that proves the “Anything Goes Martial Arts Training Hall” is aptly named, and if Picolet is beaten, another foe will surely rise to take his place.
Slapstick, bizarre, and full of both verbal and visual humor, this series makes it clear that nothing is too zany for Japanese comics. By Rumko Takahashi, the story is adapted into English by Gerard Jones and published in black-and-white by Viz Comics.
