X-Men Movie Prequel: Wolverine
(Marvel, 2000)
™ and ©2000 Marvel Characters, Inc.
In 2000, to whet the appetites of rabid X-fans ulcerating for the summer premiere of the first live-action X-Men movie, Marvel produced several prequel editions focusing on the back-story of several of the movie’s major characters. The prequel editions were meant to function as companion pieces leading up to events in the film. But since the stories were all based on an earlier version of the script, they don’t quite gel with events in the movie. Still, if you’re a die-hard mutant lover, you won’t mind. This edition, probably the most popular, introduces us to a familiar yet different Wolverine. Here, Logan is an amnesiac, wandering rural Canada, looking for some hint of his past life. Along the way, he meets a mysterious woman who also claims to have lost her memory, but one thing is clear: she is being pursued by an all-too-lethal villain, the Silver Samurai.
