Marvel Tails

This humor title finds Marvel’s popular characters recast as funny animals. In addition to Spider-Ham, there is also Captain Americat and the Hulk-Bunny. Interestingly, aside from a few sight gags, these are fairly straightforward super-hero stories by Marvel standards. Spider-Ham’s sarcastic retorts are completely in the character of the real Spider-Man and Captain Americat possesses the dogged determination of Captain America, even though he is a cat. Since many of Marvel’s stories have humorous elements anyway, it requires a more absurd approach to set it apart as a humor book.

A backup story featuring the Ghost Rider as the Goose Rider is more successful since by contrast there is little that is funny about the source material.
