Surf Sumo is a collection of the comics of Mitch Scheele. Scheele’s comics are surreal, often stream-of-consciousness episodes, reminiscent of early underground comics. Scheele also does more standard super-hero adventure stories, but the main attraction is the more experimental pieces, many of which have a fixation on praying mantises. A bizarre comic, with a unique viewpoint that’s definitely slightly askew, Surf Sumo may provide a few smiles, and delivers a few subtle messages as well.
