Lobo, Black Lightning and Hawkman are names that are familiar in the DC Universe, but not as part of the Metal Men. This title was part of the Tangent imprint from DC Comics in 1997.

Metal Men is the name of an elite commando group that operated behind enemy lines in the Czechoslovakian War. The term Metal Men originated with the commanding officer, Marc Moore, who, due to a serious head wound in Vietnam, had a metal plate replace part of his skull. The name came to apply to the entire band because of their reputation for seeming invulnerability during their successful missions.

The story of their last mission is told from the recollections of Sam Schwartz, now president of the U.S. It was a mission that led to fractious and insubordinate divisions among the group. Schwartz’s memoirs for public consumption however, differ significantly from the reality that binds the tightly woven Tangent Universe.
