Bishop: XSE

™ and ©1998 Marvel Characters, Inc.

Bishop is a fixture in Marvel’s sprawling X-Men empire, a mutant from the future who drags a tangle of confusing timeline paradoxes in his wake. This three-issue mini-series spotlights Bishop the character, rather than Bishop the plot device, by telling a story from Bishop’s past—AKA, the future, before he went back in time to fix everything. At this time, Bishop, his sister Shard, and his comrades Malcolm and Randall are part of a squad of the Xavier Security Enforcers (XSE), a kind of mutant militia on the front lines in the guerilla war against the bigoted “normals” who want to wipe the mutants out. The plot and action are relatively straightforward thanks to a good script by John Ostrander, and are kept moving at an exciting pace by quality art from Steve Epting and Mark Prodeaux.
