Chickasaw Adventures
(LM, 2004)
™ and © 2004 Layne Morgan Media, Inc.
Johnny is a modern–day descendant of the Chickasaw Native American tribe. His grandfather is proud of the Chickasaw heritage and delights in relating tales of the nation that was “Unconquered and Unconquerable,” but Johnny is embarrassed by the old man’s incessant stories. After an argument his grandfather, Johnny encoutners a sacred totem and somehow finds himself transported back to a pivotal time in the mid–16th century when the Chickasaw nation engaged the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. Johnny, now as the young Chickasaw brave, Piamoko, learns first hand of the honor and integrity of his ancestors. When he just as mysteriously finds himself returned to the present, he has a new respect for his grandfather.
This title is part adventure and part history lesson and even includes a quiz about Chickasaw terms. The art by Tom Lyle is clean and pleasing although the dialogue sounds forced and artificial.
