The Maelstrom had always been perceived to be merely a source of power in the Dark Horse Heroes Universe. But in fact, it is much, much more than that. And as the evil First Born learns in this one-shot, most of the world’s heroes—a group that includes such vigilantes as X, Barb Wire, and Ghost, among many others—owe their creation and unique abilities to its mysterious depths. And when the First Born gains this knowledge, woe betide those heroes, for he’s exactly the type who’ll seek to gain an advantage from the explanation behind their respective mutations. He’ll even sacrifice his right-hand soldier if it brings him closer to the vast power at the Maelstrom’s heart.

Dire consequences loom, but fortunately, the aforementioned heroes will be on hand to combat them. This ashcan format issue kicked off the Dark Horse Heroes Universe. Written by Keith Giffen and drawn by Matt Haley.
