Curse of the Weird

Weird horror/science-fiction comics ruled supreme during the 1950s, a time when super-heroes were in decline, and before the Comics Code Authority cast a chilling hand on the sorts of tales that could be told. Marvel (then known as Atlas Comics) certainly did more than its share of these stories in titles such as Venus, Adventures into Terror, and Astonishing Tales. Although not quite as gripping as the famous EC titles like Tales From the Crypt, these were nevertheless notable as some of the early work of comics legends Steve Ditko and Basil Wolverton.

With the Comics Code now losing its force, Marvel went back to the vaults to dredge up their old classics. The result is this series, as well as sister title Monster Menace. Here we find reanimated heads of Nazi scientists, great floating eyeballs possessing an alien intelligence, and dead men who somehow summon their own ghosts.
