Manga Horror
(Avalon, 1998)
™ and ©1998 Avalon Comics Group
Charlton Comics published Ghostly Tales—on and off—from 1966 until 1984, and the title featured fairly typical horror comics fare over the years. In Manga Horror, ACG reprints, in black and white, some of the contributions of Japanese artist Sanho Kim to Ghostly Tales, offering up “The Bloody Mermaid,” the tale of an evil, murderous sea creature, from the late 1960s, and “Strange Valley,” a story of science-gone-horribly-wrong, from the mid-1970s. Kim’s style is somewhat reminiscent of legendary artist Gray Morrow (Superman’s Girl Friend Lois Lane) and, in spite of the title of this collection, doesn’t exhibit any of the trappings of traditional Manga art.
