Eclipse Comics’ version of Miracleman (Marvelman in the UK) was a brilliant deconstruction of a super-hero legend. In that series, Miracleman regained his identity in the present day and learned that all his remembered adventures had been an induced fantasy. Knowing this, Miracleman became a very different character. Instead of playing out the super-hero game, he would focus his awesome powers toward larger, even existential issues.

This two-issue Miracleman Family mini-series, however, takes readers back to the high-flying Miracleman of the original comics. Miracleman was really a British continuation of Fawcett’s Captain Marvel (Shazam!) and as such shared versions of Captain Marvel’s sidekicks Captain Marvel Jr. and Mary Marvel (Young Miracleman and Kid Miracleman, respectively). Together, they formed the Miracleman Family, a colorful group of super-heroes, some of whose lighthearted adventures are reprinted here.
