Barry M. Goldwater
(Dell, 1965)
™ and © Dell Publishing Co.
The US Presidential election of 1964 was similar to ones today and included much mudslinging—namely in an anti-Goldwater television ad that portrayed Goldwater as a warmonger that probably cost him the election. Both incumbent President Lyndon B. Johnson and Republican candidate Barry M. Goldwater had comic book biographies issued about them by Dell during the election year so that voters could make an educated decision. It is highly improbable that anyone over 21 (the then minimum voting age) consulted these books to make their choice, so they appear today as just interesting novelties of their time.
