This superb collection released by D.C. Comics and Kitchen Sink Press includes all the daily newspaper strips featuring The Man of Steel, which ran from 1939 to 1942. Originally released as a single volume hardcover and later as three separate trade paperbacks, these comics showcase the burgeoning talents of Superman’s creators Jerry Siegal and Joe Shuster. Highlight’s include one of Superman’s longest stories which ran for an astounding eight months and pitted Superman against numerous villains from the underworld determined to collect a million dollar reward for Superman’s death. Probably one of the funniest moments from the series shows Superman spanking his enemy and admirer the Blonde Tigress. Also, featured are informative introductions, which add insight to the comics and discuss such topics as Superman’s early Hollywood career. This collection is not only an entertaining read, but also an important piece of history preserving the legacy of one of America’s greatest icons.
