Cutie Pie
(Junior Readers’ Guild, 1955-1956)
™ and ©1956 Junior Readers’ Guild, Inc.
Short-lived kids comic Cutie Pie would be easier to picture in your mind if she were named “Denise the Menace.” The terrible tyke from Junior Reader’s Guild, a kid-oriented post-Comics Code spinoff of hard-edged Lev Gleason Publishing, is the female equivalent of Dennis right down to the drawing style, which is a dead knockoff. Cutie Pie gets into the same innocent mischief, causing havoc at the expense of all the adults in her midst, including her long-suffering parents and teachers. There are plenty of laughs in Cutie Pie, but the series only lasted five issues.
