Life on Another Planet
(DC, 1995)
™ and ©1978, 1979, 1980, 1983, 1995 Will Eisner
When scientists intercept a radio signal from deep space that could have only originated with an intelligent life form, events are set in motion that will have worldwide repercussions. But the signal is merely a catalyst for a variety of real life stories. Politics, the Cold War, religious cults, the Mafia, big business and Third World dictators are just some of the subjects that comic master Will Eisner explores in this parable. Ostensibly a science fiction story, Eisner, (who died in 2005) delved into genres ranging from a simple spy story to the philosophy of questioning man’s place in the universe. His talent was such that he could do all this while utilizing the drama, action, romance and mystery that fans of The Spirit expect.
Originally serialized in The Spirit Magazine from Kitchen Sink in the 1970s as “Signal From Space,” the power of Eisner’s storytelling is all the more apparent when collected between two covers in this excellent graphic novel.
