Superman & Batman: Generations

    (DC, 1999)
™ and ©1999 DC Comics

This four-issue series in the Elseworld setting is written, drawn, and lettered by the legendary John Byrne (Uncanny X-Men, Alpha Flight). According to DC, the idea behind Generations is to show, decade by decade, the progress of the lives of Superman and Batman. In the telling, Byrne’s intent is to incorporate elements from all the confused DC realities, and at the same time explore the changing sensibilities of comics themselves as they changed over the years. The stories begin with the decade of the 1930s and progress from there. The style of each successive decade shows in the storyline as well as the artwork, revealing exactly how much a comics aficionado Byrne is.
