Pummeler

Stories ©1993 their respective authors

Marvel’s Punisher is one of the most popular targets of spoofmakers. There’s something about a hopelessly grim guy on a mission of vengeance with lots of guns that seems to beg for a humorous rewrite.

Parody Press! turns in one of the funnier Punisher send-ups with their Pummeler one-shot. They take on all the great Punisher clichés, from the origin story which is relived ad nauseum in flashbacks to the ridiculous extremes to which he goes to ensure security of his safehouses. One of the funniest sequences involves Phrank waging a “war on filth” as he cleans his bathroom with bizarre automatic weaponry. Other bonus features include a Peanuts parody featuring Snoopy as a drug dealer and Woodstock as the Punisher; “The Family Slaughter,” a vigilante take on Family Circus; and “Pummie,” an Archie parody which is even funnier considering that The Punisher Meets Archie team-up was actually created a year or so later.
