In case anyone else is contemplating doing a super-hero-meets-reality-TV-comic, stop right now; by the time it sees print, the fad will be over. But that doesn’t stop Capes, a Cops “it’s not an adventure, it’s just a job” styled adventure, from being loads of juvenile fun.

It fits nicely into the Erik Larsen universe, and it’s not just the art that has his fingerprints all over it. As in Savage Dragon, we keep bumping into interesting characters that we’re never introduced to (though I’d say “Machine Head” looks more like an “Atomic Tiki”), has the same level of political incorrectness (one hero says something so unbelievably sexist, a black hero doesn’t seem to notice it’s also supremely racist), and there’s more than a couple of truly original moments, like the “all popular black heroes have electricity-based names” rap or when a hero is finally caught staring at the heroic proportions of a super-heroine.
