Mythos (Wonder)

This 10-issue limited series was conceived with lofty ambitions—as the comics equivalent to Ray Bradbury’s Martian Chronicles or Robert Heinlein’s Universe tales. What it is, though, is a series of modestly entertaining, somewhat derivative science fiction stories that all exist in the same universe. Seattle-based comic writer and cartoonist Nils Osmar handled the words, while a variety of artists—most notably Tim Sale (Daredevil: Yellow, Batman: The Long Halloween), turning in some early cover efforts—took care of the pictures. Overall, despite such gaudy story titles as “Zakaya” and “Spore Wars” the series is eminently readable, and head-and-shoulders above most indy efforts of the time.
