Young Bug

    (Zoo Arsonist, 1997)
™ and ©1997 Michael Daedalus Kenny

Rita is a somewhat troubled youngster whose mother works on an ant farm. The odd thing is, the ants are her mother’s coworkers. Yes, in Young Bug, the bugs are not only big; they’re productive members of society. What appears from the cover to be kids’ comic is actually a strange and well-thought out journey into a land that insects helped to build. A creation of Michael Daedalus Kenny, the stories contained inside manage to “humanize” the bugs and still capture that alien quality that intelligent insects might have. The story Young Bug, tells the tale of a young girl who is trying to deal with her life, much complicated by the unintentional violence committed by her friend Bug, a man-sized ant. “Good Country Insect” is a tongue-in-cheek story about a rural roach who helps out two city dwelling humans with car trouble.
