This graphic novel-sized book features gorgeous drawings and paintings by the very talented David Wenzel (The Avengers, The Hobbit) and text by Robb Walsh. It explores the ancient legends and folklore surrounding dwarfs—those storied “hoarders of gold, builders of swords, and masters of alchemy.“ Here, readers are treated to speculation—based on research—about the dwarfs’ underground cities, their social structure, and their mining and metallurgical talents. The text also focuses on the dwarfs’ historical significance and delves into much of the stuff of fairy tales that has come to be associated with these little people, i.e. enchanted forests, magic swords, the enmity of trolls, etc. Fascinating stuff and beautifully illustrated!
