Victor Thompson is a xenoarchaeologist who was sent, along with his family, to investigate caverns on the planet Sargon IV. Before even landing on the planet, many of the crew had taken sick with a strange illness, leaving them bedridden. With the crew diminished by illness, Victor and his son Charlie were among the first to explore the caverns…and the first to encounter the Aliens.

Soon after, Thompson finds himself alone, buried under tons of earth in an escape pod while Aliens swarm overhead. He hasn’t long to live, but in those final hours he fantasizes about being a hero, a perfect father, and salvation—in short, all the things that never really were, and now never could be.
