Wynonna Earp: Home on the Strange

    (IDW, 2003-2004)
™ and ©2003 Beau Smith

She’s back, looking just as good, thanks to nice art by Carlos Ferreira, and hitting twice as hard. And now that the “Bad Girl” trend is over, the cheesy fan-service shots are kept to a bare minimum. (Though one has to wonder what function the fur trim around her boots serve—beside making her look like a stripper.)

That gives Smith and Company more room for the story, and postal zombies dealing in body parts make for a great opening salvo in a much larger story. There are plenty of British writers who like their (naturally, American) heroes to be “hardmen,” brutal sociopath assailants who relish killing. Leave it to Smith to give us a woman who could mop the floor with the whole sorry lot of them.
