Salvador—A House Divided, El
(Eclipse, 1989)
©1987, 1989 Bill Tulp
Although primarily a vehicle for tales of fantasy and fiction, the comic book art form is capable of being utilized for a great many projects. Eclipse Comics has been at the forefront of employing comics for the cultivation of a political and social conscience.
El Salvador—A House Divided reveals a brief history of the country and then uses a fictional family to portray actual events in this war-torn Central American nation. This family, like so many caught in circumstances beyond their control, do not emerge unscathed. While the black-and-white artwork is slightly less refined than one might see in a mainstream title, the passion for the tragic lives the people of El Salvador have endured is evident in this thought-provoking book.
