X-Men/Alpha Flight (2nd Series)

Cyclops is mourning Jean Grey; James Hudson is still alive and leading Alpha Flight as the Vindicator; and Kitty Pride and Colossus are preparing for their first date. But since this date involves mutants, their subsequent attack by heavily armored mercenaries probably should have been expected. Wolverine recognizes the technology as James Hudson’s, which compels Professor X to ask Hudson for an explanation.

This 2-issue mini-series featuring an “Untold Tale of the X-Men” was published in 1998. Marvel set this story during the more innocent days of the X-Men before every member seemed to have their own title and come from an alternate timeline. The relative simplicity of the mutant universe at this point of their history; prior to the convoluted storylines and hanging plot threads; is a seductive back-to-basics approach.
