The Japanese Catwoman? Not exactly, but there are similarities to the DC antiheroine in this manga mini-series, translated into English by Dark Horse Comics. The sexy Shadow Lady is a playful, mischievous crook who bounces around the city committing crimes and having fun doing it. Rarely inconvenienced by the bumbling cops pursuing her, she nonetheless experiences complications when she falls for the dashing stranger Bright Honda—himself a renegade cop, determined to bring Shadow Lady to justice. No longer enchanted by a life that has her at odds with the man she loves, she muses over hanging up her skimpy attire and magical shadow powers, and returning to life as plain old Aimi Komori. But can she?

Masakazu Katsura’s story is lighthearted and funny, and his art dabbles in the kind of sexiness for which this genre is famous. (Men crashing in on women in showers is a recurring theme.) All in the name of good, clean fun.
