Kolchak: The Night Stalker: Pain Most Human
(Moonstone, 2004)
™ and © Moonstone
Veteran investigative journalist Carl Kolchak is like that reporter from the old Incredible Hulk television show: always chasing monsters, but never able to convince anybody else that they're real. Of course, there really was a monster on the Incredible Hulk, and Kolchak perseveres in his claims even while everyone else—including his editor—thinks he's crazy. Now, the man who has encountered vampires, zombies, and werewolves wants to cover a "straight" story, but instead, stumbles onto a military cover–up that hides a secret every bit as far-fetched as anything he’s written before.
This one–shot is told in flashback form while a shaken Kolchak is confronted by his disbelieving editor. The action and dialogue are both reminiscent of another paranormal TV series, The X-Files.
