Polly and the Pirates

Polly Pringle was born to the pirate’s life. Although it’s understandable that she wouldn’t think so, having grown up in a prim and proper girls’ boarding school without a clue about her family’s background. This six-issue series from Ted Naifeh (How Loathsome, Courtney Crumrin) follows Polly’s travails as she comes to grips with her destiny. Polly’s daydreaming girlfriend Anastasia Van Ververndander shines in a supporting role as the rebellious hellion who goads Polly in to trouble.

Naifeh’s fanciful 17th century mise en scène and the mangy, rascally pirates who kidnap Polly add visual pleasure to this delightful story that should appeal to curious readers of all ages. Plans call for Polly and the Pirates to be published in a paperback digest edition after the six-issue series ends.
