The Hardy Boys (Papercutz)

The Hardy Boys are immortal, or at least it seems that way. From their beginnings, fans have had the Franklin Dixon novels, and, in the 1970s, the popular TV show. Today, thanks to NBM and Papercutz, kids everywhere have the comic book.

Scott Lobdell and Lea Hernandez have teamed up to create a classic (in the making) Bayport mystery. The boys help rescue a race horse, and promptly find themselves involved in Chet’s arrest for the theft of the Ocean of Osyria. Just like it was straight out of an old hardcover, Lobdell weaves a tale that will have long-time fans seeing Chapter Four already.

Hernandez does a fantastic job on art. Matching her manga-style art with the straight-forward plot turns this comic book into a winner. The updating of The Hardy Boys is done with a style that pays homage to their roots. A minimum of gadgets (thus far a Palm Pilot and a computer nerd father), a close relationship with their parents, and a pair of clean wholesome kids form the basis for this series, just like the novels have all these years.
