Dojinshi Sketchbook (Kia Asamiya’s…)
(CPM, 1999)
™ and © 1999 Central Park Media Corporation
Kia Asamiya is one of a handful of manga artists who is well known in America as well as in his native Japan, namely because of his work drawing Marvel’s X-Men. This one-shot from 1999 collects unreleased artwork from the popular Japanese illustrator; except for the front and back covers, they’re all in black and white sketches, allowing his fans to his art in their most primitive form. There are characters from Nadesico, Dark Angel, White Diamond, Assembler, and his U.S. breakthrough, Steam Detectives. Asamiya also explains every piece, discussing how particular characters are designed and showing readers what he initially intended for certain comics covers.
