This black and white title from Chris Yambar and SSSComics chronicles the adventures of the universally hip Mr. Beat, a cute, li’l Beatnik who acknowledges the power of the bean—that would be coffee to you and me. In fact, one story is built around Mr. Beat’s pursuit of his morning cup of Java, while another tale finds Mr. Beat and his pal El Mucho Grande, Wrestler for Hire combating a gaggle of comic book characters who have leaped from their four-color pages into our titular hero’s black and white world. Yambar’s wit is loads of fun, and Mr. Beat is at his best when he’s offering up his favorite inspirational quotations. Fun stuff from a gifted humorist.
