When astronauts Dan Venture and Scotty Mackay get shipwrecked in deep space, they are forced to land their capsule on a strange planet where factions are battling for control. Assisting the beautiful princess, Venture and Scotty discover a fantastic civilization beneath the planet’s vast ocean. Captain Venture and the Land Beneath the Sea is an above-average Gold Key title from the late 60s era and a showcase for the fine, under-rated artwork of Dan Spiegle. Spiegle’s delicate, Alex Raymond-like linework and storytelling prowess lift the otherwise-pedestrian science fiction/adventure series to a higher level of excitement.
