True Spy Stories is less a comic book than an illustrated collection of articles. It tells the stories of famous and not-so-famous spies who have shaped the course of history. Included in the bunch are characters like Mata Hari, a rather Dutch woman who transformed herself into one of the most celebrated femme fatales of all time. Also featured are legendary patriot Nathan (“I only regret that I have but one life to give for my country”) Hale, Gary Powers (whose U-2 spy plane went down over Russia at the height of the cold war), and the infamous “Major Martin,” a dead man whose corpse was used as part of a plot to convince Germany that the Allies would attack Europe from a different point during World War II.
