Quantum Leap was a popular television show of the early ’90s. It starred Dr. Sam Beckett, head of project “Quantum Leap.” The goal of the project was to produce a method of time travel, with Beckett theorizing that time travel might be possible within the span of one’s own lifetime.The project was under the threat of losing its funding unless it showed quick results. In desperation, Beckett risked all and stepped into the untested time travel apparatus.

As it turned out, Beckett was right—but not in the way he expected. He now “leaps” randomly in time, winding up in the bodies of different people at various times throughout the last thirty-eight years. Beckett must help these people overcome some life difficulty before an unknown force causes him to leap into a different time, place, and identity. His only help in his travels is Al, the project observer who appears as a computer-generated hologram. Somehow, Al must aid Beckett in finding his way back to his own time.
