Original Mysterymen Presents (Bob Burden’s…)

    (Dark Horse, 1999)
™ and ©1999 Bob Burden

The Mysterymen are mysterious and deadly, gliding through the shadows of night doing mortal battle on society’s fringes, where civilization ends and darkness begins. They are a bizarre collection of oddball, costumed adventurers, deemed unqualified for major-league super-hero teams because of mediocre, uncontrollable, or nonexistent powers, behavioral problems, or the extreme public outrage at some of their shenanigans. Basically a snappy costume and a cool name is all that’s needed for Mysterymen affiliation. At their peak, they numbered about thirty (a.k.a. the Dirty Thirty), an exact number is difficult because of high casualty rates, the highest of any law enforcement agency. They’re industrial-strength crimefighters with ice water for blood and administer harsh, draconian justice at a moment’s notice. Blessed with camaraderie borne from the constant proximity of danger and doom, they fight on.

In 1999, a movie version of the Mysterymen was released, entitled Mystery Men.
