Gog (Villains)

    (DC, 1998)
™ and ©1998 DC Comics

This one-shot special is a sequel of sorts to Kingdom Come. In that series, Superman had retired, and was slow to come to the rescue of a humanity that was pushing ever nearer to destruction. The result was tragedy, as a large part of Kansas was obliterated in a fiery blast.

William, a young boy who survived thanks to Superman, grew to found a sort of church based on the “divinity” of the Man of Steel. The Phantom Stranger, the Highfather, and an assortment of other near gods observed William and chose him as their agent to change the course of Earth. To affect this change, they gave him a mystical scroll relating the details of all that had led up to the Kansas cataclysm, along with a power to change those events.

When William received the scroll, he was transformed into Gog. But instead of using his awesome power to prevent the Kansas disaster, he chose to accelerate it!
