Morty the Dog (Starhead)

Steve Willis’ Morty the Dog was a clever comic that had the bad luck to appear at a time when there were just too many other clever comics on the market. Morty is a beer-chugging smart-aleck who who is simultaneously hip, cynical, and funny as all get-out.

Published during the black-and-white comics boom of the mid-eighties, Morty originally appeared in alternative press newspaper format (about 2/3 the size of a regular comic page). Those early adventures are gathered here in what was meant to be a five-issue mini-series. Funny as it was, the sales were hard to come by. We’ll say this much for Morty: he never sold out. (Yes, we’re in pain too, but we think it’s the sort of pun Morty would have appreciated.)
