X: One Shot to the Head

In Dark Horse’s Comics’ Greatest World, the city of Arcadia makes Gotham City look like a Girl Scout camp. The opening captions of this one-shot from writer Jerry Prosser (Aliens: Heat) and artists N. Steven Harris (Aztek the Ultimate Man) and Chris Warner (Predator) pretty much set the tone: “The rain tended to back up the sewers in Arcadia, as little was done to maintain their efficiency. When it rained hard, all kinds of things would come washing out onto the streets. Tonight, it was raining hard.” This is a city rife with corruption and crime, and the only one to challenge those who prey on the innocent is X, the leather-garbed vigilante who marks his intended victims with strokes of red. This time it’s a senate hopeful whose park project is wreaking havoc in X’s part of town.
