Wolverine: Global Jeopardy
(Marvel, 1993)
™ and © 1993 Marvel Characters, Inc.
In 1993, partly to honor the memory of much-loved distribution chief Carol Kalish, Marvel co-produced this one-shot book with the World Wildlife Federation. Headline superstar Wolverine (of the X-Men) teams with the ocean-going hero Sub-Mariner and Marvel’s resident jungle dwellers Ka-Zar and Shanna the She-Devil to solve the mystery of the disappearance of some endangered species. Written with the usual wise-ass panache by Peter David (“Don’t ask the crazy villains if they’re crazy, dear. It only annoys them,”) and illustrated by Kalish’s husband Richard Howell, Global Jeopardy is a fun read whose occasional lack of subtlety can be excused by virtue of its good intentions. Look for a surprise guest appearance by one of the strangest characters to ever have his (its?) own comic title.
