Metaphysique is a story that tends toward the mystical. A group of six people unknowingly become pawns in an evil scientist’s plan to become a god. They think that they are getting treatments for reoccurring nightmares, when they actually are being robbed of their energy. One of the subjects in these tests is the son of a long-dead super-hero named Metaphysique. Metaphysique returns in the boy’s dreams and in the virtual reality programs the boy utilizes to treat his nightmares, in an attempt to warn him.

Norm Breyfogle was inspired by philosophy, ancient Hindu Indian psychology, and movies like “Dreamscape,” “Altered States,” and “Lawnmower Man” to utilize virtual reality as a story device when he created “Metaphysique.”
