Metal Men Annual (Thorpe & Porter)
(Thorpe & Porter, 1967)
Packaged for the Christmas market in 1967 Annuals-: Aquaman-Atom-Blackhawk-Brave and Bold-Doom Partol-Flash-Green Lantern-Hawkman-Metal Men-Showcase and Wonder Woman were Repackaed Comics as the later Dpuble Double Comic were.
The contents vary widely from one copy of the same title annual to another, even mixing in Marvel comics where the covers are all DC titles.
In July 1966, Thorpe & Porter went bankrupt. The company was purchased by Independent News
Distributors (IND), the distribution arm of National Periodical Publications (DC Comics). DC comics always printed a warning about selling their comics in any altered state. However Thorpe and Porter in the UK came up with perhaps the oddest comics ever published anywhere.
Between 1967 to 1971 cover-stripped unsold copies of imported American comics returned to distributors Thorpe & Porter by newsagents for disposal were frequently repackaged. Thorpe and Porter bound-together remaindered copies of selected DC and Marvel comics with their covers removed and glued together within a new cover, covers were taken from original DC comics or sometimes new covers adapted from interior scenes. They are very hard to find in Near Mint but quite often show up on eBay UK in low to mid grades.
