Supernatural Freak Machine

Cal McDonald deals with unsolved cases, dangerous cases, and otherwise just plain scary cases. On top of that, his partner, Mo’Lock, looks a lot like Frankenstein’s monster, although his vocabulary is much more extensive. Unbeknownst to him, the obscene mischief of Dr. Polynice, who somehow achieved a position as a trustee in the prison infirmary, will lead Cal to the Virginia Maximum Security Prison. But first he has to deal with a demon–possessed Chevy Nova.

Cal McDonald was created by writer Steve Niles, and appeared previously in Criminal Macabre from Dark Horse as well as three prose books, Savage Membrane, Guns, Drugs and Monsters, and Dial M for Monster. The art by Kelley Jones, who explored similar themes in his creator–owned The Hammer stories, is appropriately grotesque and much more fitting to this kind of genre than the reality–grounded Batman stories than secured his reputation in the 1990s.
