Halls of Horror (John Bolton’s…)
(Eclipse, 1985)
™ and ©1985 John Bolton, Quality Communications, and the respective contributors
Eclipse Comics has collected several of artist John Bolton’s black-and-white horror stories, colorized, and published them in this two-issue limited series. The framing sequence used to tie the stories together involves R. Chetwynd Hayes, a well-known author of horror stories, and Eramus, a famished vampire, who has attacked Hayes for a drink of blood. To show Hayes that bloodsuckers aren’t all bad, Eramus takes him to the Monster Cabaret to regale Hayes with stories of true terrors. The stories feature dinosaurs and cavemen, ghouls, werewolves and the eerie Shadmock whose shrieking whistle can melt flesh. Bolton’s moody artwork shines through the blotchy colors to render these chilling tales in classic B-movie fashion.
