This black-and-white series from Big Shot Comics and creator Steve Brooks features a high-tech bounty hunter in far-flung outer space. As the series opens, Gideon Hawk is not asked to bring back a criminal, but a mystically empowered stone called the Jewel of Shambali. If this precious and powerful stone should fall into the wrong hands, its possessor could wreak havoc the likes of which the universe has never seen. Money, of course, encourages Hawk to take the job, but his innate heroism will seem him through. Unlike a number of black-and-white independents, Gideon Hawk boasts crisp, clean artwork, and Brooks’ story is energetic and entertaining.
