NASCAR Adventures gives a different race car driver’s biography in each issue. In the first issue, readers were told the story of NASCAR legend Fred Lorenzen, who won twenty-six NASCAR races throughout his career. The issue showed how Lorenzen rose in the ranks of drivers until he finally won his first race in 1961. He went on to have an illustrious career in NASCAR.

One of his only setbacks was when his friend and mentor, “Fireball” Roberts, passed away due to injuries sustained in a car crash. This caused Lorenzen to lose concentration and crash too. Fred Lorenzen retired in 1967, having been the first racer ever to earn $100,000 in a single season.
