The Shadow and the Mysterious 3

    (Dark Horse, 1994)
™ and ©1994 The Condé Nast Publications, Inc.

This one-shot contains three short stories featuring famous pulp hero the Shadow. Like the famous radio and magazine stories of old, each is ingenious in its own way.

In “Fate’s Free Fall,” the Shadow investigates a group of white slavers who use a trapdoor straight to a building furnace to hide the evidence of their crimes. “Cold Day in Hell” has the Shadow stalking a group of bank robbers who have taken refuge in an isolated chalet where a single gunshot could start an avalanche, and the Shadow succeeds largely by getting the thugs to kill each other. Finally, “Ceiling Zero” is a midair thriller as a supposedly dead gangster takes several dinner guests hostage, tying them up in a plane, and threatening to crash it unless they sign over all their assets to him.
