The character Zorro began in 1919 as the hero of a pulp-fiction story. This collection of black-and-white adventures seem to be captured from a popular newspaper strip which ran in the mid-1900s and published as part of Britian’s “Six Penny” superseries from the middle part of the 20th century.

A dark clad rider with a “Z” emblazoned on his shirt, this Zorro is not the character of legend and Disney fame, but rather an Old West dandy who helped the law from behind the scenes, and rescued the pretty girl so her boyfriend could marry her. Without whip or sword, but quick and accurate with a pistol, this character is more like the Lone Ranger than the Spanish-speaking Don Diego most of us have come to know.
