Death: The High Cost of Living

In the Sandman’s world, Death is one of the Endless—those that will exist beyond the gods. But for one day each century, Death walks the earth as a mortal. Only by doing this can she truly understand the lives she takes.

In this elegantly crafted three-part story, Death lives the life of a New Yorker, eating hot dogs, making friends with a teenage loner, and hitting the clubs. Unfortunately, some know of her brief stay as a mortal and have sought her out for their own ends. Mad Hettie, for instance, hid her heart in order to thwart Death, but now has forgotten where she put it—now she needs Death to help her find it. More ominously, a madman seeks to entrap Death in her moment of weakness and make her do his bidding…
